I’ve been anxious to try Mutts since it first opened about three weeks ago, but seeing as I don’t have a dog (for now) and my schedule has been somewhat demanding otherwise, it just hadn’t happened yet. But this past weekend I watched a friend’s dog, Mia, and found the perfect excuse to bring my “borrowed child” to the dog park meets bar.
Owners and friends lounge around the picnic tables sipping on local craft beers, frozen margaritas or one of the hand spun shakes, while dogs play at ease in the yards; one for small dogs and a separate one for large dogs. Or if your dog isn’t feeling especially social and instead prefers to hang with you, that’s ok too. If your dog is mingling in one of the yards, it’s for a small daily fee or inexpensive monthly membership, and the guarantee that his playmates are up-to-date on shots, while full-time attendants provide snacks, water and pick up after the dogs.
To add to the bar and park, Mutts is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, serving up a variety of coffee, a list of specialty hamburgers and hot dogs, salad, snacks and custards. I tried the turkey burger, per the server’s recommendation, and was impressed with the flavor, juiciness and bow wow sauce. Top it off with a Bourbon Shake, the 21+ up shake offering, and I couldn’t find a bone to pick about this place.
