Casa Rubia Brings Dallas Closer to Spain

Last Thursday a few friends helped me celebrate my birthday at Casa Rubia in Trinity Groves and I was delighted by the Spanish tapas and delicious wine, let alone the good company!

Chef Omar Flores has already made a name for himself at Driftwood and he’s gaining attention at his and Jonn Baudoin’s newest spot. Leslie Brenner even recently named Casa Rubia as one of The Top 10 Restaurants in Town.

Tapas on the menu feature seasonal ingredients with a modern take, while the family-style, daily paella is served with a squid ink sauce that you’ll want to bottle and take home. We enjoyed the “sampler” charcuterie and cheese board, olives, short ribs, sea scallops and paella. The server advised something to the effect of, “If you’re bold, try something different because you’ll probably like it.” We didn’t venture too far, but all were fantastic. As a bonus, everything we ordered was naturally gluten-free, with the exception of the bread served with the charcuterie.

With patio weather coming into season, we had an enjoyable dinner outdoors and I look forward to returning before it gets too hot to try some of those bolder menu items!
