The Kentucky Derby may be the quintessence of southern events and style, and I’ve always held a special fondness for it since attending in 2009. So when my friend Erin invited us to a celebration at Del Frisco’s Grille, you can bet I was off to the races.
With a handful of hosts, and sponsors 14 Hands Winery and Vineyard Vines, this was a preppy event fit for the occasion. We donned our hats, seersucker and pearls, to sip wine and mint juleps while enjoying the perfect Dallas patio weather.
I hadn’t visited the staple McKinney Ave spot since my Celiac diagnosis and was beyond pleased when the servers brought me my very own gluten-free deviled eggs and house-made flatbread. Both regular menu items were part of the complimentary hors d’oeuvres for the event and the versions made special for me were delightful. It was such a nice touch of southern hospitality!
Vineyard Vines is opening soon at NorthPark Center for all your preppy needs and they outfitted the party with coozies and sunglasses in their signature madras. Both went fantastic with the array of pastels and seersucker.
If Easter officially kicks off spring and Memorial Day marks summer, then the Derby certainly helps spur the transition between the two! We had a blast celebrating and I look forward to my next southern soiree!
